This will require some more advanced coding and styling. You can start by going to the plugins folder > SD Shortcodes > inc and edit the file named “shortcodes.php”. On line 844, this:

'post_type' => 'post',

Replace it with this:

'post_type' => array( 'post', 'events' ),

This should display both normal post and events in the same row.

add_post_type_support( 'events', 'excerpt' );

I’m afraid this will require significant editing and more code to add. The query requires the date and time to be stored in the database in unix format in order to sort the items. So you’ll need to replace the current date and time metaboxes with a single “datetime” metabox that can store the date and time as a timestamp. The metaboxes are located in the theme’s folder > framework > inc > metabox > the-meta-boxes.php starting at line 85.

Example of new metabox that should replace the current date and time metaboxes:

        'dateFormat' => _x( 'd MM, yy', 'backend date format', 'sd-framework' ),

Then create your query args like this:

$args = array(
    'post_type'      => 'events',
    'cat'            => $cats,
    'posts_per_page' => 2,
    'order'          => 'ASC',
    'meta_key'       => 'sd_dov',
    'orderby'        => 'meta_value',
    'post_status'    => 'publish'
);

But now your date and time will be stored in unix format and you’ll have to format them across the site in order to have a human readable date and not a date like 1209201501000.

So you need to replace the date and time across the website with something like this:

$dov = rwmb_meta( 'sd_dov' );

<?php echo gmdate( get_option( 'date_format' ), $dov ); //this is the date ?>
<?php echo gmdate( get_option( 'time_format' ), $dov ); //this is the time ?>
