    I think my next step is to delete the them altogether and reinstall from scratch via the WP Dashboard…but uploading via FTP and rewriting the old theme files should have the same effect. This is so strange…

    If it doesn’t work on the default WP theme it means it’s not a problem created by the theme.

    It’s a good idea to reinstall everything fresh. If you did any changes to the theme’s files, simply back them up and after you install a fresh version you overwrite just those modified files.

    @skat, the fresh install did the trick. Had to recreate the slider altogether, but worth it in the end. Thanks for the help…hard to find a theme developer with better support!
